TAPIA, Claudio; OLIVER-TOLENTINO, Miguel Ángel; GONZALEZ, Ignacio  y  RAMOS-SANCHEZ, Guadalupe. Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2019: Ion-Li batteries. Educ. quím [online]. 2020, vol.31, n.1, pp.12-22.  Epub 22-Dic-2020. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2020.1.72730.

In the year 2019, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to three people for the same reason: the development of Ion-Lithium batteries. The development of this technology also brought about a series of relevant advances in regards to the mechanism of energy storage by some materials, chemistry of materials and, certainly, the way in which we conceive energy storage.

This article highlights the relevance of their work, the operation principles and advantages of Li ion batteries, and the opportunities and challenges in the energy storage field.
