GALLEGUILLOS CAAMANO, Marco et al. Implementation of active learning workshop in massive classrooms to improve the academic performance in chemistry, in freshmen veterinary medicine students. Educ. quím [online]. 2019, vol.30, n.2, pp.90-99. Epub 15-Nov-2019. ISSN 0187-893X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2019.2.65067.
The subject of chemistry taught in the first year of higher education presents to the students difficulty in the understanding of their contents due in part to the low motivation and the masivity of the classroom. To address this situation, the teaching team, in conjunction with the South Campus Learning Center (CeACS), developed and implemented an orientation program in mass classrooms “Active Learning Workshop in Classroom” (TA3) aimed at first-year students of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Chile (2016). Out of a total of 257 invited students, 76 enrolled in the program. This group improved its performance by approximately one point by comparing its performance at the beginning of the semester and at the end of this. These results indicate that these types of orientation programs in mass classrooms are effective for the development of skills for the learning of complex and abstract content such as chemistry.
