Resumen

VILLALONGA, Marlen; GARCIA, Raquel M.; MENENDEZ, Ana L.  y  FALLS, María M.. Integration of General Chemistry in the speciality of Mechanical Engineering using Professional Problems. Educ. quím [online]. 2009, vol.20, n.1, pp.83-87. ISSN 0187-893X.

Mechanical Engineering students do not relate Chemistry with their speciality. This subject does not have a real importance for them, because they are not motivated and their self preparation for assignments is insufficient. An element that has proved its potential stimulation towards learning is the addition of reality elements, mainly professional, in different kinds of classes, but especially in practical activities. The main objective of this paper is to establish a strategy based on the integration of General Chemistry contents with different subjects of the speciality of Mechanical Engineering by means of solving artificial professional problems in practical activities. With the application of professional problems good results were obtained in the previous preparation of the students and in their participation in classes. The method of group learning has been also used.

Palabras llave : Mechanical Engineering; General Chemistry; problem solving; group learning.
