ALCARAZ-CONTRERAS, Y. et al. The protective effect of thiamine and ascorbic acid against hepatotoxicity induced by lead exposure. []. , 43, 1, pp.72-78. ISSN 1870-0195.

In this study was determined the hepatoprotective effect of thiamine and ascorbic acid in a dose regimen administered as individual therapy and combined in experimental lead intoxication examined in rats. The effect was evaluated on parameters indicative of liver damage: 1) markers of liver damage (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase) and 2) histopathological changes. Ascorbic acid and thiamine was found to be efective in decreased levels of hepatic enzymes with some treatments. In microscopic examination all treatments improved regeneration of the liver tissue. Biochemical and histological analysis indicated that antioxidants reverse, in varying degrees, the liver damage produced by lead.

: ascorbic acid; thiamine; lead; hepatotoxicity.
