JIMENEZ ARELLANES, María Adelina; ROMAN CORTES, Nallely Rosalba    GARCIA, Ignacio. Antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of hexane extracts and pure compounds from Aristolochia taliscana rhizome. []. , 42, 3, pp.35-41. ISSN 1870-0195.

Aristolochia taliscana is a medicinal species known as guaco. By chemical fractionation from the hexanic extract, (±)-licarin A and B, and eupomatenoid 1 and 7 were isolated. These compounds were identified by comparing spectroscopic and spectrometric data with those described in the literature. Antioxidant activity and polyphenols were determined by ABTS method and Folin-Ciocalteu reactive, respectively. Antibacterial activity was performed by broth dilution against Escherichia coli, Pseudomona fluorescens, and Lysteria monocytogenes. (±)-Licarin A, eupomatenoid 7, and the hexanic extract exhibited significant antioxidant activity; (±)-licarin A and eupomatenoid 7 were positive in polyphenols test. The hexanic extract and eupomatenoid 7 inhibited the growth of all bacteria strains, showing an MIC = 0.5 L and 0.7 mg/mL, respectively.

: Aristolochia taliscana; (±)-licarin A and B; eupomatenoid 1 and 7; antioxidant; antimicrobial.
