The therapeutic use of antibodies has increased considerably in recent years, particularly in oncology. Recently, the development of antibodies coupled to cytotoxic drugs (ADC antibody-drug conjugates), has been prompted. ADC are monoclonal antibodies that have high affinity for antigens on neoplasic cells, linked to cytotoxic agents by a linker that can be split, favoring a high concentration of free drug within the tumor, decreasing unnecessary exposure in other tissues. In this review we will present a brief description of the historical development of the ADC, the characteristics of the ideal molecule, with examples of molecules found in therapeutic use or in various stages of research, as well as the prospects for these systems.

: antibodies; therapeutic; antibody drug conjugate.
